id=\"intro\">Introduction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>AccurateTax is a product that allows online retailers to accurately calculate and charge sales tax on all orders shipped within the United States. It scrubs and validates the shipping address, looks up the correct sales tax rate(s) for the order based on the address and the items in the order, and calculates the tax amount, adding it as a sales tax charge to the customer&#8217;s order. The solution consists of a Magento extension that is installed on the retailer&#8217;s store, and the centralized AccurateTax server-based application that is hosted on our systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"install\">Installing the Extension<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before installing the AccurateTax extension in your store, you should have the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A Magento store and the login information to access the administration utility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your license key and checksum as provided by AccurateTax<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Knowledge of the state(s) in which you have nexus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Magento access key<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have this information, go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accuratetax.com\/pricing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AccurateTax listing on the Magento extension store<\/a> to install it on your website. For general Magento extension installation instructions, not specific to AccurateTax, <a href=\"https:\/\/experienceleague.adobe.com\/docs\/commerce-operations\/installation-guide\/tutorials\/extensions.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"general\">General Settings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the Magento administration, go to Stores -&gt; Configuration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the left side navigation, under the Sales section, click on Tax<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll down to the AccurateTax section, then click to expand it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set &#8220;Enable Module&#8221; to Yes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter your license key and checksum values<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the states for which you want to call the AccurateTax servers to calculate sales tax<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the Customer Groups that you wish to have AccurateTax calculate the tax for. SST customers select all Customer Groups even the ones that are exempt to tax, as you will need to have AccurateTax set up these Customer Exemption on your account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leave the service URL (https:\/\/us1.accuratetax.com\/service.php) as the default unless advised to change it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose whether to enable logging, which can be useful for developers needing to troubleshoot their connection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the &#8220;Save Config&#8221; button to save your changes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"prodclasses\">Product Tax Classes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once these steps are completed you will need to make sure that each product has a <strong>Tax Class<\/strong> assigned and it is one contained in the rule you previously created (default &#8220;Taxable Goods&#8221;).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"495\" src=\"https:\/\/www.accuratetax.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/5-magento-admin-product-tax-class-1024x495.jpg\" alt=\"Magento product edit screen showing Tax Class field\" class=\"wp-image-8229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.accuratetax.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/5-magento-admin-product-tax-class-1024x495.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.accuratetax.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/5-magento-admin-product-tax-class-300x145.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.accuratetax.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/5-magento-admin-product-tax-class-768x371.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.accuratetax.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/5-magento-admin-product-tax-class.jpg 1065w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Make sure your products have the correct Tax Class assigned, such as Taxable Goods shown here.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next you must follow the Tax Class Mapping instructions within the AccurateTax interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"shipclasses\">Shipping Tax Class<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Under Stores &gt; Configuration &gt; Sales &gt; Tax in the section labeled Tax Classes, make sure that the Tax Class for Shipping is assigned to a Tax Class Appropriate to Shipping. If you are mapping<br>multiple states to a single tax class, such as adding Apparel Items for NY and FL, you will need to create separate mappings, i.e. repeat steps 7-8 for each state.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This should be done for all your Product Tax Classes as well as any Tax Classes that are used for Shipping<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Next two steps (Setting Up Tax Zones and Rates as well as Setting up Tax Rules are both optional, and these will act as a fallback rate incase your site is unable <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"zones\">Setting Up Tax Zones and Rates (optional)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This and the next step  of Setting Up Tax Rules are optional, and essentially these rates will be used as backups if for some reason the AccurateTax service cannot be reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the Magento administration, go to Stores -&gt; Tax Zones and Rates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a zone for each state you wish to collect sales tax for. To do so, click the &#8220;Add New Tax Rate&#8221; button. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete the fields as follows:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tax Identifier<\/strong> can be any unique name that helps you understand what it refers to. Rules assign the Zones and Rates in Magento to Tax Classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the Magento administration, go to Stores -&gt; Tax Rules<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the &#8220;Add New Tax Rule&#8221; button in the upper right corner<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete the fields as follows:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Name<\/strong>: Use any name you wish.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tax Rate<\/strong>: In most scenarios, you will check all tax rates to apply this rule to them<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optional: If you need to apply this rule to unique customer or product tax classes, click the down-facing arrow to the right of <strong>Additional Settings<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Customer Tax Class<\/strong>: In most cases, this will be Retail Customer. Click to change it to a different customer tax class as needed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Product Tax Class<\/strong>: In most cases, this will be Taxable Goods.
